Old Country Schoolhouse Painting

The Old Country Schoolhouse

The idea for this painting comes from old rural schoolhouses that once dotted the back roads of America.  One can still find a few of them, usually at country road intersections, and often turned into small country homes.  I painted this old school house in a quiet field of poppies. The painting continues around the edges of the gallery-wrapped canvas. It is wired and ready to hang.

Original Little Farm Paintings

I like the challenge of painting in different sizes for my original farm & barn paintings.  Here is a selection of little paintings that I have done in a small 5 x 7" size, painted in acrylic paint on archival quality hardboard panels.  These little pieces easily frame up into a standard sized picture frame.

Sheep by a Quiet Old Farm Painting

Just a Little Ways from Home

I have had an idea for a new sheep painting floating around in my head for a couple of months now.  This is the newly finished painting from that idea.  I painted this quiet sheep into an overcast farm scene from my imagination.  I really like painting a variety of atmosphere in my country landscapes, from blue skies filled with puffy white clouds, to overcast and misty scenes, to stormy and night time skies.  I am currently working on a starry night landscape with a horse in a silent farm painting.

The sides of the gallery wrapped canvas are painted to match, and it is wired to hang, so no framing is necessary!

Near the Quiet Stream

It s been a while since I have painted one of my overcast stream paintings. I really enjoy painting different types of weather in my landscapes. This scene makes me think of one of those still quiet days in the country, where you can hear the sounds from a very long ways away.

Red Barn on a Quiet Farm Landscape Painting

Red Barn on an Old Farm

This painting was inspired by the old red barns and white farmhouses that were once so common along the country backroads, that I love.  There is something so peaceful and pleasant about being out in the country on a quiet summers day!  I hope to capture that in my paintings of summer time in the beautiful American Heartland.

Please visit my web site for more info. on this and my other farm paintings and country landscape art.

Old red barn in a quiet summer landscape

Red Barn in a Quiet Field

This landscape was inspired by the old wooden red barns that once were so common along the country back roads that I love. As time goes on, there are fewer and fewer of them left standing. I painted this simple red barn into a quiet summers landscape scene from my imagination. The piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.
I hope that you will enjoy viewing my vision and glimpses of the quiet, old rural landscapes of the American heartland. Old farms, barns, cattle, sheep, meadows and big open skies, are often the inspiration for my art. I have been influenced by the old Barbizon, Tonalist, & Luminist painters for my original dreamscape, landscape paintings.

A couple of new small farm landscape paintings by Sharon France

I have been working on some small paintings this past couple of months.  Here are two of the ones that I have completed now.   Deciding on what sort of weather and time of day is one of the fun things that I like about landscape painting!  I have painted everything from sunny blue skies, cloud filled skies, overcast skies, sunsets skies, stormy skies, tornado scenes, night paintings and others in between.  These two painting measure just 5 x 7", painted on archival quality hardboard panels.

Sunset Over the Old Stone Farmhouse

If you have seen my paintings over time, you may have guessed that I love old farmhouses and am especially fond of old stone ones.  I painted wisps of smoke coming from the chimney of this farmstead scene, with a pastel sunset sky and clouds overhead.   It makes me happy to think of warmer weather ahead, after a long hard winter here in the Midwest.  Early summer is my favorite time of year and I look forward to those warm, quiet, windless days during that time of year.

Brushes that I use to paint my original country and farm animal paintings.

Here is a photo of both the largest and smallest brush sizes that I use on my paintings. I use the large one for painting in my skies and also for the base and sometimes the finish layers, on the land areas on my paintings. The smallest two brushes are used for smaller details, such as little windows, window pane detail, eyes, fur details, tiny background scenes and my signature.
