Fence Along the Old Barn

I enjoy seeing remnants of the old wooden fence posts that at one time surrounded many of the fields in the midwest. As farm equipment has grown in size and likewise fields, most have now been removed as the years have gone by. This painting depicts a big old dairy barn with old wooden fence posts running alongside it. The old posts that were made of osage orange trees or more commonly known as hedgeapple wood were extremely hard and have lasted especially long. They could even resprout after being cut with the bark still on and set as posts.
