I have used masonite coated with gesso as the surface for this piece. This is a harder surface than stretched canvas which has a bit of spring when painted on. My work has a more impressionistic feel to it when I paint on a harder or smoother surface like this. I enjoy the differences of painting on both canvas and masonite for my landscapes.
