This painting was inspired by the old red barns and white farmhouses that were once so common along the country backroads, that I love.  There is something so peaceful and pleasant about being out in the country on a quiet summers day!  I hope to capture that in my paintings of summer time in the beautiful American Heartland.

Original Old Stone Farmhouse Painting

This is one of my recently finished paintings. A little cottage of stone, set under a early morning sky with an old fence line, and tiny farm scene in the distance. I like adding the tiny background scenes, and other finishing details to my paintings. Except for painting animals, and my commissioned house portraits, I quit working from photographs years ago now for most of my paintings. I have been tardy on posting to my blog in recent months!  Nonetheless though, I have been busy painting.  Here is the finished goat painting that I had posted just a clip of, when I was still early on in its progress.

Commissioned Farm Painting

This is a commissioned painting that I just finished up this week.  I paint commissioned farm and farmhouse scenes in both small and large sizes.  I have painted them similar to paintings that I have already done, and as scenes from a clients own photographs of their family farmstead.  If you are interested in commissioning a piece, I will be glad to work out the details with you and give you a price estimate.  

Bald Eagle Landed on our Farmstead

A bald eagle landed on an old tree on our farmstead yesterday. My husband spotted an immature one here a couple of years ago briefly. Maybe the same one that just visited again? They are an extremely rare site in our area, so we were happy to see it.

I have been working on a new cow painting in oil this week, along with a long landscape of one of our tom turkeys, in acrylic too.  I always have several paintings in progress at once.  This gives me time to let one dry as I work on another one, and also time to think of what I want to do next.   I will be posting them in the future when they are finally complete. 

Why do I Paint the Country?

I have been blessed to live and paint on a quite old farmstead, surrounded by fields, for most of my life now. It all started when I was a kid growing up. We had a field in front of our house, and a field in back of our house, yet lived on a street that had other homes along it, at the edge of town. In the summer, I remember the walks through the field of corn behind our house, and the feel of the damp mud on my bare feet back then. The trips to my grandparents remote Midwestern farm, are some of my favorite childhood memories, and from as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to live in the country like them. My husband grew up on a farm, and after we married our goal was to move to out of town. Soon we did, and we have never regretted that decision. We live in old farmhouse with a red barn, which are a great inspiration for what I paint. It gives me a sense of peace and happiness to work on my quiet, country, landscape paintings, and I hope that you may find that in them also.
